Scoring & assumptions (100 points total)

  • Ten questions, weighted to 100 points total. The heaviest are assets versus your age band (16), savings rate (14), and whether you have a written retirement income plan (12) — because those three move the outcome most.
  • Bands are 75 and up On Track, 50 to 74 Gaps, under 50 At Risk. They are Marc's cutoffs from real Ontario plans, not an industry standard.
  • This is a self-assessment. It scores what you tell it — it does not verify balances, read statements, or run a projection.
  • The age-band benchmark (1x salary by 35, 3x by 45, 6x by 55, 9x by 62) is a rule of thumb. It ignores pension value, spending level, and retirement date, all of which can move the real target a long way.
  • A high score is not the same as being funded. Two households can both score 85 and have completely different outcomes depending on spending. The Ontario Retirement Calculator answers the funded question.
  • Nothing is submitted to see your score. Your answers stay in your browser.
